Cori's Crusaders

Cori has life threatening food allergies to milk, eggs, wheat, barley, peanuts and some tree nuts. She has had 8 anaphylactic reactions to date. Two of them back to back this past March and April. The first was due to me buying chicken tenders that I thought were gluten free but were not. The second came when she was talking away at lunch and picked up her friend's water bottle instead of her own and drank from it. It contained milk. One of the reactions required an overnight stay in the hospital as her oxygen levels were not were they should have been even after receiving epinephrine.

As she gets older, the more difficult things become which may seem counterintuitive. However, she is more aware of what her friends have and eat and wants the same. There are more events to attend where she can't fully participate in ways a 7 year old would want. And as she gets older and more independent, the more we need to rely on her to keep herself safe which, when a bite of the wrong cookie can be the difference between life and death, it is a very difficult thing for a parent to do. I read an article a few years ago written by a mother of a food allergic child. She said something in the article that really sums up what it is like to a have a child with this condition. It went something like this..."food allergies amplify a kind of fear every parent experiences — of a child dashing suddenly into the street and, just like that, being gone. Your child is always playing near a precipice that is visible only to you: you may be able to keep her from falling off, but you can never move her away from the edge.

Please help me move Cori away from the edge. Help me fund a cure, help me fund research and education so that this world will be safer for her and the 15 million people living with food allergies.

Here’s how you can help:
DONATE NOW! My goal is to raise as much money as possible in honor of the 15 million Americans with food allergies. Any amount helps, and when you donate, you help FARE to fund food allergy education programs, advocacy and awareness initiatives, and world-class research. Together, we can create a better future for all who are affected by food allergies!

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!
